Axel...?...or differential...
axle. the driveshaft is what connects the engine to the differental. the differential then connects to the axle!

its the axle, the differential is in the middle of the two and has gears to turn both that are set at a 90 degree angle off of the drive shaft or rear drive shaft if you have all wheel drive.
