What are the chances of damage to alloy wheels in mounting tires?

A Walmart Service center called my attention to a lip crack on the inside of my Cadillac alloy wheel during a routine tire rotation. They orginally installed the tires and denied any responsibitality for the damage. The car has not been in any type of accident and no algnment problems.What are the chances of damage to alloy wheels in mounting tires?
I think it would be really hard to do doing a tire rotation. Even if they were new tires and they threw them on a mounting machine, it's relatively gentle. You should think back to any major potholes that may've caught you buy surprise. I think the bottom line here is that it would cost a lot more to prove how it happened than a new rim. Chalk it up to experience and replace the rim.
