Can I put bigger tires on my car if i buy wheels with a smaller width?

I have 22x9.5 on my car right right with 245/30/22. It barely clears without rubbing by about a half an inch. I was wondering if I get 22x8.5 wheels can I get a tire with more meat without it rubbing? ThanksCan I put bigger tires on my car if i buy wheels with a smaller width?
I don't know about exact measurements (some of that is determined on what kind of car you have), but yes, smaller wheels mean more room for bigger tires. If you want to check the exact measurements, check at the tire store. If you go to an actual tire store (not Sears or Walmart) they should know or be willing to find out.
