1999 Jeep Cheerokee, thinking about new tires and wheels?

where should I look for tires and wheels.

what size would be appropriate if i dont want a lift kit installed.

i want the tires to be more rugged looking than what comes stock.1999 Jeep Cheerokee, thinking about new tires and wheels?
Most jeeps can go up to 31x10.5 pretty easy without any mods. Most of your normal tire places don't carry the "rugged" treads. In most cases, these can be mounted on to the stock rims saving you a little. The tires will run around $125 plus shipping. The drawback is you will go from getting 60-80K miles to about 40K. Again, depending on what your intentions are, you may be better off with all terrain tires. If you do any off roading, the mud terrains are really nice, but you can always let the air pressure out of your stock tires and climb / go through just about anything. Might also look at getting a winch for the front end.1999 Jeep Cheerokee, thinking about new tires and wheels?
You will rub with 31"s on an XJ (Cherokee). You can get away with 30"s depending on how much your stock suspension has sagged. My 93 has 30"s and I can't get them to rub. But I have talked to people who have 235s on thiers and they almost rub.

There are alot of tires places.. Tire Rack, Discount Tire Direct, even Walmart sells tires. As far as wheels again, Tire Rack, Discount, most all of your tire centers also sell wheels.. You can however, run 30x9.50x15s on your stock wheels.

Lowering springs or wide tires and wheels?

I'm starting autocross this season and i have some extra money to get some upgrades for my car but I'm not sure what to get. I have konig rims currently on my car but I would like to keep them for show. My two options are either getting another set of wheels I could use that are nice and wide or get lowering springs and use my steel wheels. I have a hyundai that is decently low to the ground and takes tunrs pretty well stock. Which would work better for me?Lowering springs or wide tires and wheels?
First off, as someone who has been autocrossing for 20 years and been teaching autocross skills to novice drivers for the last dozen years in our car clubs schools I can not stress enough that if you are just starting out and your car is sound DON'T SPEND ANY MONEY ON IT.

Autocross is 95% driver and 5% car. Improve the former, not the latter.

Learn how to drive the thing first, then you can consider changing it based on what you learned driving it. If you are going to spend money on the car anyway no matter what I say the thing that will actually improve times dramatically is tires. Tires can take seconds off your runs. Everything else takes fractions of seconds off your run times. But before you buy tires figure out what class you are going to run in. For the last 8 years I have run in Stock class because that is where the vast majority of the really good drivers run. Modifications in stock class are very limited - basically any tire that will fit on a stock size wheel (the wheels themselves need not be stock, just the same width and diameter as stock) without modifying the fenders. The difference in times on a nominal 60-second course between my car with its original 215/45VR17 Continental Sport Contacts and the 225/45R17 91W Kuhmo Ecsta V710 street legal competition tires I use for autocross is probably about 3 seconds. That's huge. You don't get that kind of improvement from any other modification.

If you end up like those people who come to each event with a different mod on their car you will always be chasing the car istead of learning how to drive it properly since you won't have the same car from event to event.Lowering springs or wide tires and wheels?
light weight wheel and sticky tires with a stiff sidewall will improve handling much more than springs.

I would only get springs if you are doing the whole suspension. springs and shocks/dampers

No such thing as "best"

There's personal preference, but that's all.

And I'm sure you'll get several people suggesting certain combos....but it still depends on your personal preference.
Nothing smaller than 28's.........cool rider.....What is the best combination of wheels and tires?
Change the size and mess up (void) your engine and drive train warranties. I suggest a nice looking wheel that is not a high theft item and a good all season radial for comfort and good wear.

  • Can I put 17" wheels/tires on my 06 Silverado which came with 20" wheels?

If the total diameter of the 17" wheel and tire is equal to the total diameter of the 20" wheel and tire will it mess up my computer-transmission interface? Can I get the computer change? Will this kill my warranty? Can I put 17" wheels/tires on my 06 Silverado which came with 20" wheels?
The 20-inch wheels are according to my sources a dealer installed option on the half-ton 06' Silverado. The OE size should be on the door placard on the drivers side door frame and is probably one of several 17-inch sizes. If so then yes, you can switch to 17's.

If its a 4x4 the OE size was probably P265/70R17 at 30 psi front and rear. If 4x2 then it might be P245/70R17 instead at 35 psi front and rear.

If your truck is a 3/4 or 1-ton then you need to use the appropriate LT-Metric tire size and inflation.

as long as the diameter of the tire is the same it will not change anything. it probley wont ride a good but it wont hurt anything. Can I put 17" wheels/tires on my 06 Silverado which came with 20" wheels?
yes u can change the wheeles .and not have to worry about the computer or warranty.the weeles don't bother that stuff

only thing that will effect the compputer or warranty is engine service or tranny other than the dealer
You have to remember that although its the same diameter, it has to clear the rotor diameter and clear the caliper. There wont be any change to the ecu whatsoever since your rotational circumference is still the same. technically going from a 17 inch to a 20 inch tire with the same diameter is known as plus sizing.

My car shakes, popping noise after changing wheels and tires?

I just changed my wheels and tires today with a friend, and my car was driving fine at first, then I started noticing a pop pop pop pop noise that got worse and worse. The car was also shaking with the pops. I thought one of my tires blew out, but the tires seem fine. Could this just be a result of them not being balanced? Or perhaps poor installation technique? Do you think it sounds serious? They should fit, they came off the same model car with the same chassis as mine.

Thanks everyoneMy car shakes, popping noise after changing wheels and tires?
something is cleary wrong. what who knows, a tire may be separating, you may be left lug nuts loose, if its okay when the tires are cold, then after they heat up by driving for 20 minutes you could have a separating tread. but take it to a professional and make damn sure, or else a tire may pass you on the freeway, shaking tells me you have a severe problem somewhere, get it fixed sooner, not later.AND THIS COULD BE ALMOST ANYTHING, LIKE A SEVERELY DAMAGED RIM FOR EXAMPLE.My car shakes, popping noise after changing wheels and tires?
you need to switch them back because they dont fit.it doesnt matter if they are the same year model and chasis they need to be the same make to fit properly because every car manufacturer has different wheel patterns ,if you continue to drive it like that you are gonna cause more damage than you can pay for. what kind of car do you have and what kind is your friends.maybe you havent got them on straight or didnt torque them the right amount ,it is hard to answer this truthful without knowing this.My car shakes, popping noise after changing wheels and tires?
It could have something to do with the balance of the tires. This should be more noticeable at higher speed. Alignment could also be an issue, but should have been noticeable with your old set of tires on too. I agree with the first poster, the first thing you should do is make sure all the lugnuts are on snugly. Perhaps even pop the wheels off again to make sure nothing got jammed between the wheels and the mounting surface (ie Brake disc or drum)
This has happened to me before. It turned out the lugs were not on tight enough and my tires could have fallen off while i was driving had i not gotten it checked out when i did.

Try tightening the lugs, and if the sound doesn't go away go to get it checked out ASAP. Don't drive on the freeway or fast at all until you know. Don't want anything coming off going over 60mph.

i'm gonna assume ur talking Rim size.... No you can not. 1 inch is a big difference, a 16 inch tire will not fit on a 16.5 in rim... • Does the spare tire in a cars trunk deteriorate as quickly as the tires on the wheels?

Because the spare tire in the trunk is not exposed to the weather or the suns UV rays, I feel it should not have to be discarded because of years as the tires on the car.Does the spare tire in a cars trunk deteriorate as quickly as the tires on the wheels?
I own cars on average 10 years and I have never had a problem with a spare tire. Just make sure that you keep it properly inflated and you should be fine. If the spare has over 200 miles on it. go to the dealer and have the doughnut replaced.Does the spare tire in a cars trunk deteriorate as quickly as the tires on the wheels?
Depends on the make and the climate you're in. Just because the tire is out of the elements, doesn't mean that the temp and moisture wont effect it. Just think of a cold glass of water sitting in the hot sun collect condensation. It's kind of the same with anything. It's cooler in the morning and the temperature change in you car as the day winds on rises cause some sort of expansion and contraction like anything else. In my experience, it didn't matter if the tire was in or out of the elements, either way, they can dry rot and become useless. Periodically you should be checking for proper inflation of your spare to keep it in tip top shape because as I found the other day, you never know when you're gonna have a blow out on the highway.Does the spare tire in a cars trunk deteriorate as quickly as the tires on the wheels?
faster actually. the lack of use is bad for the rubber and can actually cause a suprise blow out. your factory manual actually recomended installing the spare as part of a normal tire rotation in the old days but todays cars dont always have a normal spare and is only meant to be drive from the sight of the flat to the nearest shop to be replaced. this at under 50 mph! that tiny tire is simply a bandage not a full recovery. the flexing of the tire is good for it where as the non movement is stiffening to the materials.

Do they rotate wheels when they do tires?

When I have tires rotated, do they rotate them on the wheel or take them off and only rotate tires. I think they rotate the wheels also, but why not only the tires?Do they rotate wheels when they do tires?
wheels and tires are rotated at the same time.it would be to much labor to remove the tires from the rims to rotate.the tires stay on the same rims for the life of the tire unless they are damaged.Do they rotate wheels when they do tires?
The tires and wheels stay together. Otherwise they have to be rebalanced, etc. (lot of work and cost).

    Good Luck...

P.S. Car tires don't need rotation as often as before. The front wheel drive car, the front wheels wear out about 2 to 3 times faster. So you would want to swap them half way so you can get even wear. that's about it.

The diameter of the wheels on your car (including the tires) is 25 inches. You are going to drive 499 miles to?

The diameter of the wheels on your car (including the tires) is 25 inches. You are going to drive 499 miles today. Each of your wheels is going to turn by an angle of ___ degrees.

Hint: A mile has 5280 feet, a foot has 12 inches, and the circumference of a circle with a diameter equals .The diameter of the wheels on your car (including the tires) is 25 inches. You are going to drive 499 miles to?
    C = (pi)d = 78.5 in

    (499 mi)(5280 ft/mi)(12 in/ft) = 31616640 in

    31616640in/78.5 in/rev = 402759.75 revolutions

402759.75(360) = 144993508 degreesThe diameter of the wheels on your car (including the tires) is 25 inches. You are going to drive 499 miles to?
    A circumference of a circle is 3.1416 * diameter

diameter of the tire = 25 inches

So the circumference of the tire is 25 * 3.1416 = 78.54 inches.

    A mile has 5280 * 12 = 63,360 inches

    499 miles = 31,616,640 inches

You can't turn more that 360 degrees, that's a full circle and you start again.

Are 17" wheels with 45 tires the same diameter or size to a 15" wheel with 65 tires?

If not, what is the closest size to the stock wheel? (205/65 R15)

I want 17 or 18 inch, but I want the same diameter as my stock wheels and tires. Are 17" wheels with 45 tires the same diameter or size to a 15" wheel with 65 tires?
The "series" number is the aspect ratio in relation to the width, i.e., a 205/65 has a sidewall height of 65% of the width, 205 x .65 = 133.25 mm, or 5.25". Double the sidewall dimesion and add in the rim diameter. This gives you a 25.5" overall diameter for you stock combo. If you want to go with a 45 aspect ratio on a 17" wheel, a 235/45/17 would be 25.32", and a 245/45/17 would be 25.68". Both should be close enough to not confuse the wheel speed sensors. If you want to stay closer to the stock width, the best option would be a 215/50/17. That would be 25.47", almost identical diameter to your stock wheel and tire.

I am looking into getting some 30x9.5 (245/75R16 ) Good year Wrangler MT/r tires, Some guy says he has them on a set of 15x8 Rims, but I thought the 16 at the end of the measurements meant they needed to be on a 16" wheel. Am I reading it right? What wheels would I need for these tires?
Yup, you read it right. The 16 at the end of the sequence stands for a 16" rim, so a 16x7'' rim would be perfect for that tire (the actual tread width is around 7.0-7.5").

Hope this helps. What wheels would I need for these tires?
Yep the 16 means you will need 16" rims for those tires. Many times the same size of tire is made for several different sizes of rims, my guess is that the tires you mentioned are available for 15, 16 and 17 inch rims. What wheels would I need for these tires?
16x7 are fine, 16x8 will let the tire spread out more and look better. I have 32x11.5x15 on 15x10 rims. Personally I prefer 15" over 16" I want more tire for off road than rim. The rim will flex, it will just not flex back. ;)

Car needs front wheels, tires, tie rods, whatever those are?

My car is 11 years old and has 225000 miles, mechanic said I need front wheels, tires, tie rods, which would cost $1000.00. Obviously I don't want to put that much money into my car, so what do I do now.Car needs front wheels, tires, tie rods, whatever those are?
Tie rods are the easiest front end parts to change because they're easily accessible. Take the car to another shop and have them check the front end for play in the steering. If they say it's mainly a tie rod problem, get a written estimate for changing the tie rods and realigning the front end. The total job just for the tie rods and front end alignment should not cost more than $275
Buy a new one! even if you buy the same model car it will be cheeper in the long run mate.Car needs front wheels, tires, tie rods, whatever those are?
Tie rods are the things that give direction to the wheels. If the stretch than the car becomes unbalanced in corners and the wheel begins to shake. If I were you I'd get a younger model. I think you've probably used your car to the limit. And believe me you'll only start to change parts every 6 months from now on.
If it needs it spend it, only if you like the car should you sink money into it (225000 I'm guessing there high way miles) if not do it your self buy the parts at an after market store, and get the parts book for your car and see what it takes to change the tie-rods (find out if it's the up or lower set that needs changed).Car needs front wheels, tires, tie rods, whatever those are?

What brand, what kind of lift would be best for my truck? Tires and wheels?

I have a 2011 Chevy silverado extended cab 1500 LS 2wd 4.8L V8, and I know it's 2wd but the dealership wanted to much for a LT 5.3L V8 Z71. So what do yall think? What brand, what kind of lift would be best for my truck? Tires and wheels?
If you skimped out on the better engine, why do you think you can afford the cost of a proper lift kit and other add ons? With the low end engine you chose, you will be best served by keeping your truck pretty much stock or only go with a very minor addition to height and tire size. Now, having said all that, do your research at local tire stores, and plenty of online locations. Skyjacker is a commonly thought of brand for lift systems and off road add ons, while rims can come from dozens of manufacturers. Try looking at a web site like www.tirerack.com for tires and rim combinations, as they are one of the most widely used sites for that and have some neat features in order to see what tire and rim combos can look like for your truck. Bottom line, it is YOUR taste and choice, and all anyone else can do is offer suggestions for you to look at and chose from.

Big tires. You're gonna want at least a 6" suspension lift and a 3" body lift to clear 44s. But I'll tell you how I did it for my ram. Google what size rims fit your size tire. Obviously a 20 diameter. But you may be able to fit a 12 wide rim on it. Also google bolt pattern 85 k5 jimmy. Go to ebay and type the bolt pattern in the searchbar. What kind/size tires should I get with my 18" wheels?

I've been looking around and see that there is different sizes such as 275/45/18 and some are more expensive than others. Don't you need low profile tires ..??

Haha Ima girl I dont know .What kind/size tires should I get with my 18" wheels?
    How wide are the rims?

Stock tires were 225/50R16 (245/45R16 on the rear of the turbo).

Without increasing the tire diameter - you are looking at very low profile tires; like 245/35R18.
If you have your owners manual look in there and if you do not have it. Open your drivers side door and look inside of it. There should some thing that looks like a sticker and it will tell you on there. What kind/size tires should I get with my 18" wheels?
275/45R18 is fine... for trucks. The appropriate tire size for your application is 225/40R18 88Y, 88W or extra load 92Y or 92W at 32 psi instead of the stock 28 psi front and rear. Or you could try the less common 235/40R18 91W at 30 psi - either of these on no wider than an 8-inch wide wheel. Still no guarantee they won't rub - your results may vary - but these should be fine.

If you want to go crazy you might squeeze 245/40R18 93W's in there but the overall diameter of your tires will increase by about an inch over stock where the above tires keep it virtually the same as stock. Bigger diameter means more clearance problems and throwing off your odometer, speedometer and gearing.

If you want to go cheapish on the tires look for the BF Goodrich G-Force Sport, Firestone Firehawk Wideoval, Fuzion ZRi or the really cheap General Exclaim UHP. The Kuhmo Ecsta SPT is another good but cheap one as well. None of these of course can be used in cold weather or on snowy/icy roads.
stick with big-o, discount tire someone that is a chain store because they can give you a better deal. most people do not realize that tires with company logos on them like sears and discount are built to a different standard than the original tire manufacturer. they still meet ANSI standards but not as good a quality. they work fine and are easier on the budget plus they give you mileage warranty that most of those tires will not last up to so you get a credit with exchange. try to get a low pro tire for clearance. remember that the height is an aspect ratio to the width. will have to use a 35 or 40 series tire and depending on the width and offset of the rim will determine the width of the tire. if i recall correctly then you will need a 255 or 265. hope this gives a little help
Hancooks are a great brand. I have the Ventus Z rating on my 05 Accord and the lasted me 47,000 miles. Last week I bought a new set of them. No matter how hard I try they just keep on holding the road

Bigger wheels and tires means less braking power and more brake heat?

i put bigger wheels and tires on my vehicle and the rotors warped really quickly. i want to get peoples opinion on how to fix this problem. I was thinking of getting cross drilled and slotted rotors and some high quality brakes. i also wanted to replace the ball joints and tie rod ends to help the steering out. andy opinionsBigger wheels and tires means less braking power and more brake heat?
Bigger wheels will put more stress on the brakes. The brakes will apply a force to the shaft, which has a certain diameter. Larger wheels means a larger ratio of outside wheel diameter to shaft diameter, meaning the brakes (and accelerator for that matter) are at a larger mechanical disadvantage. They will have to work harder, generating more brake heat and using more fuel.
as Pat said a bigger wheel take more effort to stop, now if you only went up and inch or so in diameter (which I suspect you went up a lot more) then you do need more braking power. getting cross drilled or slotted rotors will help vent heat (don't get drilled AND slotted rotors as this weakens the rotor and can cause them to crack under stress) however if you get the same size rotor your breaking distance will not be reduced very much. You need a larger rotor and better better calipers (the part that squeezes the rotor) to improve stopping distance. You should look for a "big break kit" as this will give you a drilled or slotted rotor and a larger diameter rotor and will solve your breaking needs. I know everyone says Brembo is the best and this is because they are, don't cheap out and get some POS get some good breaks and you will be happy!Bigger wheels and tires means less braking power and more brake heat?
This is common when rotating a larger mass and try to stop it. Simple physics. Yes, larger rotors, better quality rotors, and a good quality brake pad will help with this problem. Performance friction carbon fiber brake pads are excellent for instead braking and can be found at most auto parts stores. They usually cost twice what standard pads cost, but are well worth it.

If you are having steering problems, don't forget to check the Idler Arm. GM trucks are common for having problems with this part, because the original part does not have a grease zerk and is not servicible. This can be tested by attempting to move up and down. If there is any up and down play, the idler arm is bad.

    Hope this helps. Christopher
Hey, there's car programs on TNT television on Sat and Sun mornings. They would have more educational value for you if you're gonna go tinkering with trucks and cars and modifying them (horsepower tv, trucks!, gears, just to name a few) Bigger tires add weight as well as more force on the brakes.Bigger wheels and tires means less braking power and more brake heat?
You put something much bigger and heavier on your car than it was designed for. What did you expect???

Anyway, expect to have to replace your ball joints next, and then tie rods, and then bearing hub assemblies., etc.
Larger wheels and tires aren't going to affect the braking of your car, driving fast and braking hard will. High performance rotors and pads will help but so will slowing down a little.
if the ball joints and tie rods aren't bad you're wasting your money. just having it aligned will help the steering as long as the parts are good
You will have to step up to bigger diameter brakes or get lighter wheels and tires.

What is the best shielding or protection system for my car wheels and tires?

You cannot attach stuff to your wheels and tyres so other than using tyre black on the rubber and getting a good coat of wax polish on the alloy wheels or wheel trims there is nothing you can doWhat is the best shielding or protection system for my car wheels and tires?
The best system for protection of wheels is definitely the FLATS OVER System. It is made of rubber so it does not transfer impact from the contact of the floor to the wheels in case of bumps and flat tires.

It is also efficient against fire arms. I saw it on a test in Italy and got very impressed. They drove something like 100Km with a flat tire, than shot the tire, then the tire came off after some 50Km flat and shot at and still the car maintained perfect driving conditions. I just got one for my car and some for my company鈥檚 cars as well. Easy to install and uninstall to transfer to other wheel of the same size. Any mechanics can do it following the manual. • What do you think? I went to a firestone dealer the other day because my firestone tires or wheels or?

something was/is causing a vibration at about 40 mph and up. They didnt address that, but when they took the back wheel off they said a grease seal was bad. There was grease all over(shoes, drum, etc). They gave me an estimate of 679.00. Said everything would have to be replaced due to contamination(drum, shoes, brake cylinder, etc). He also said it was very dangerous to drive. What do you think? thanks. What do you think? I went to a firestone dealer the other day because my firestone tires or wheels or?
I agree that most time vibration is not caused by berring packing. At such a low speed, wheel balance is most likely the cause, exspecially if there are meg wheels on the car. If that doesnt solve the problem, another inexspensive method is wheel alignment. Even if that doesnt end up solving the problem, both things will extend the life of your tires and even handling!
The vibration is balance of wheels. As far as the seal issue, go somewhere else to get price. The price they gave seams very high! What do you think? I went to a firestone dealer the other day because my firestone tires or wheels or?
Your literally driving with only 3 brakes being applied. Has to be corrected before vibration can be checked further. The vibration can be caused due to the grease on the drum which acts like a glue when the brakes are applied. The cost appears high. The shop should show you what is needed and to itemize the cost of the repairs. Unless there is a major problem with the brake drum, a new one should not be needed, can be cleaned and or machined. The wheel cylinder can be purchased as re manufactured instead of new to hold down the cost. If you don't feel comfortable with Firestone, obtain a second opinion. Note that both left and right rear brake lining has to be replaced at this time so that lining material matches.
there is no reason to replace brake drums or the brake hardware (springs hold downs etc) they can be cleaned up. as for the wheel cylinders it is possible they may need to be replaced if the gear oil has caused any breakdown of the rubber cups on the end. the brake shoes will defiantly need to be replaced as they are oil soaked and have no stopping power anymore. the work he said that you needed done sounds as though he is trying to take you for a a sucker banking on the fact that you know nothing about cars. with the info you get from the answers to your question take the car somewhere else and tell them right up front what is wrong with it and that this is what needs to be done (using what we tell you here)What do you think? Will using lighter tires and/or wheels on my vehicle increase my gas mileage? To a noticable degree?

If I choose a slightly skinnier tire and slightly lower aspect ratio but still the same rim size and the smaller tire weighs say a pound less. Is that four less cumulative pounds of spinning mass enough to increase my gas mileage by say .5 or 1 mpg? A 1mpg increase for my vehicle is roughly a $140 savings per year. So in three years I could theoretically pay for the tires just by picking a lighter tire. Any tire experts out there? Will using lighter tires and/or wheels on my vehicle increase my gas mileage? To a noticable degree?
Decreasing unsprung rotating mass is a potential area to improve a vehcile's performance, as small weight changes here can produce an affect greater than you'd think for the small weights involved. Though ultimately it is all in relation to the vehicles total weight.

Assuming what you mentioned (skinnier tires, lower total diameter, for one less pound): first the dimensions - the skinnier tires would create a smaller contact patch which would also mean less rolling resistance. This would help fuel economy, perhaps a good portion of what you are looking for. However, whatever you gain here could easily be offset by the small diameter tire, effectively lowering you overall gearing and requiring you to run more engine revs (and more fuel) to hold the same highway speeds.

Which means it all comes down to the weight difference. At one pound per tires, you would get slightly better fuel economy IF you managed to accelerate at the same rate as with the heavier tires. However, if you gave the same ammount of throttle, you would simply accerate oh-so slightly better but use the same fuel. In either case though, it wouldn't be much different. If your car has a 16 gallon gas tank, you could have a much greater net effect by never filling your gas tank past the halfway point. The weight savings of 8 gallons of fuel would be about 3 times greater than the net effect of 4 pounds of unsprung rotating mass.

Now, if you sought out ultra lightweight rims, combined with lightweight tires where you could save 5-10 pounds per corner, then you'd make a major difference... but 1 pound? Unless you are driving a go-kart or something similar in weight, you'd find almost no difference (maybe save a couple dollars/year, if that). Will using lighter tires and/or wheels on my vehicle increase my gas mileage? To a noticable degree?
    No

Can you put a set of non offset wheels on a pair of offset tires?

If you take it to a mechanic they would probably advise against it. In your owner's manual it should list which tires are compatible for your vehicle or you can use the link below. The tires need to mount properly on your existing rims and fit inside the chassis. Aside from handling issues having incorrect equipment on your car can damage parts or even cause an accident from mechanical failure.
Like Jerry said, tires don't care about offset, only wheels. The offset measurement helps the tires not hit the body %26amp; suspension parts, %26amp; you can use spacers between the brake %26amp; the wheel to correct a bit of a problemCan you put a set of non offset wheels on a pair of offset tires?
An offset wheel means how far the disk is from the centre of the rim. Tires do not have offsets.

I don't know about exact measurements (some of that is determined on what kind of car you have), but yes, smaller wheels mean more room for bigger tires. If you want to check the exact measurements, check at the tire store. If you go to an actual tire store (not Sears or Walmart) they should know or be willing to find out.

What is one benefit and one down side to car tires/wheels having very high moment of inertias.?

The advantage is that the ride is smoother. Small changes in acceleration are hardly noticed. The serious disadvantage is that acceleration is very costly in terms of energy. This is a big problem when the car must move in stop and go traffic.

My ford explorer stock rims are designed for a 235/70/16 tire. Would it be possible to put a bigger tire on the same wheels I have now?Can I put bigger tires on my SUV with same wheels?
Your can put bigger / wider tires on the same rims. I went up a couple of sizes on my with no problem. If you get too big you will have a problem with wearing the center of the tire out and you also have to watch and make sure that you are not going to rub a fender or the fire wall when you install them. There are limits on everything so who ever put the tires on for you have them check to make sure everything is clear. Can I put bigger tires on my SUV with same wheels?
You can but double check whether or not you have ABS. Most ABS systems have a 5% margin of error built in and can get screwy with a different tire size than what they're calibrated for.

Changing the diameter of the tire will also change your speedometer reading (larger tires read slower than actually traveling since they take fewer revolutions to cover the same distance). Can I put bigger tires on my SUV with same wheels?

What size tires and wheels can fit on a 1989 Jeep Cherokee?

The jeep does not have a lift but I am looking to get mud tiresWhat size tires and wheels can fit on a 1989 Jeep Cherokee?
15" wheels would be best. Width will depend on the tire you use, but will most likely be either 7" or 8"

considering the range of tires available. Bolt pattern is 5 on 4.5" circle

You might be able to get away with 30 x 9.50 x 15 tires, if the springs aren't too sagged. Considering that the truck is 20 years old, it's likely that they're pretty sagged, so you're going to end up with a smaller tire if you want to avoid rubbing. Something in a 28 or 29 inch tire, I'm not sure what the metric equivalent would be, maybe like 215R75X15, or something in that range.

Wherever you buy the tires will know, but this will give you some idea of the range.

Not sure if that is an all wheel drive vehicle or four wheel drive vehicle, if so that is NOT compatible. You will destroy the gearbox (which will cost thousands). If you are looking for performance, the front tires are a much better choice due to it being a fwd car. However, this will throw off your odometer and kill low end torque. Unless you have done major upgrades to the car, I would advise against offset sized wheels. Can I put two 15 inch wheels on the back tires with 14 inch wheels on the front two tires?

I am selling my tires to my friend and they are on 8 inch wheels right now, but his wheels are 9 or 10 inches wide. Will they fit on his?Can you take tires off 8 inch wheels and put them on 9 or 10 inch wheels?
Maybe - it depends on the specifics which are very short in your question. You mention your wheel width, and a possible range for his wheel width, but no mention of the tire sizes.

    For example:

a 245-15/16 tire that is mounted on an 8x16" rim, would have no problem sitting on a 9x16" rim. It might even fit on a 10" rim, but that would depend on the specific tire, and it probably wouldn't be a good fit. Obviously, if you were planning to try and move the tire from an 8x16" to a 9x17", it won't work.

But a 225-15/16 tire on that same 8x16" rim may be problematic if you were to try and move it to the 9x16" rim, and wouldn't come close to fitting on a 10x16" rim (probably wouldn't fit on the 9", but again, there probably is a specific tire out there in that size that runs larger than others and may just fit).

I've seen 275s squeezed onto 8" rims too... and this would work very well on a 9" or 10" rim. But I've also seen a 215 on one once, which was just about as close to being too small on an 8" and would never come close to working on something larger.

Check the tire specs from the manufacturer and they will give the range of wheel on which the tires can be mounted. That will give you a definitive answer about your specific tires. Can you take tires off 8 inch wheels and put them on 9 or 10 inch wheels?

Assuming the saloon, the top of the range model ships with 195/60V15, which is a slightly better option if looking for a balance between handling and comfort. The 14's with the big tyres will be more comfortable, but the high side wall will reduce handling.

go to tirerack.com and see if there are aftermarket sizes you are able to put on your wheels. You have to make sure they clear the wheel well, especially in the front where the wheels will be turning left and right.

Do low profile tires make your wheels get scratched?

i just got new wheels and want low profile tires to go with them, but my friend said that if i get them my wheels will be all scratched up in days, and these wheels are painted white and i would freaking DIE if that happened xD..

has this happened to anyone else?Do low profile tires make your wheels get scratched?
The wheels getting scratched up has nothing to do with the tire itself. It's hitting curbs, potholes, etc. Just drive carefully and stay well away from the curbs when parking, and you'll be fine. Many performance tires have a built in "wheel lip protector" to help prevent damage to the wheel, it is a thick ridge of rubber that extends past the bead of the wheel.
How low the profile you dreamed ? Whatever low you choose, just remember to choose the tyre that to be wider then the rim, it will protec the rim if you park or els; always check the pressure once a week to make sure its good; last, drive carefully.Do low profile tires make your wheels get scratched?
If you excercise due caution they won't get strached up, but keep in mind with a large diameter wheel/low profile tire combo there is less rubber there to protect the wheel. Scraping curbs, bent wheels from hitting potholes and such are far more likely with that kind of setup.
General driving won't scratch the alloys, but when parking you'll more likely hit the kerb which will unfortunately cause said scratches. Low profiles will also take more of a beating when going through uneven surfaces and pot holes so those sort of roads should generally be avoided.Do low profile tires make your wheels get scratched?
you should definitly avoid curbs and potholes, if you live near buffalo NY, you would be very good at it. plenty of practice on city streets around here. i even remember where all the potholes are and switch lanes to avoid them.
    yes it will

  • What size tires will fit these wheels?

I need to know what size tires I can buy for my Mustang. It has the original wheels. They are 1997 Ford Mustang 15" x 7" Alloy Wheels. I want to go with a lower profile and a wider tire if I can. Right now they have 205/65 R15 tires. What other sizes can I do?What size tires will fit these wheels?
    The widest I would go on a 7inch wheel would be a 205 or a 215 max.

You can go wider on the vehicle, but the lack of "width" on the wheel will limit you in how wide you can go.

    Hope this helps, Good Luck!

What are the chances of damage to alloy wheels in mounting tires?

A Walmart Service center called my attention to a lip crack on the inside of my Cadillac alloy wheel during a routine tire rotation. They orginally installed the tires and denied any responsibitality for the damage. The car has not been in any type of accident and no algnment problems. What are the chances of damage to alloy wheels in mounting tires?
I think it would be really hard to do doing a tire rotation. Even if they were new tires and they threw them on a mounting machine, it's relatively gentle. You should think back to any major potholes that may've caught you buy surprise. It's pretty difficult for a person to do some damage like that unintentionally. What are the chances of damage to alloy wheels in mounting tires?
The only real traceability you have for car maintenance is when you always go to your dealer for service. After market parts are your responsibility. What are the chances of damage to alloy wheels in mounting tires?
I think the bottom line here is that it would cost a lot more to prove how it happened than a new rim. Chalk it up to experience and replace the rim.

New wheels and tires with right rear wobbling?

I just put a new set of Skeystone mags with NEW 60's in back and new 65's in front. My wife noticed that the right rear wheel was wobbling, I have tried tightening the lugs checked the axle everything is tight. Do you have ANY suggestions?New wheels and tires with right rear wobbling?
If this wasn't happening with the previous rim/tires and everything is truly tight, then it has to be a bad rim that could have wrapped in the manufacture process. Maybe it was heat treated for strength but cooled down improperly.

Try putting one of the other non- wobbling new rims on the right rear to make sure it's the rim and not your axle.New wheels and tires with right rear wobbling?
I'd take it off first, to make sure there's not a piece of crap that got between the wheel %26amp; the hub. Then, as you put it back on, there's a round hole in the center of the wheel, and a round protrusion on the hub that's supposed to fit into that hole. See if maybe the hub part is too big for the wheel hole....New wheels and tires with right rear wobbling?

How to find out what size tires and wheels my 2000 focus originally came out with?

there are two different sizes that i see

    P185/65R14

P195/60R15How to find out what size tires and wheels my 2000 focus originally came out with?
Go to www.ford.com. In the search engine for the site, type in 2000 Ford Focus and the model it is (ZX3, ZX5 etc.) It will take you to a page that gives you all you ever wanted to know about your car. Especially if you put the VIN number into the web page as well. The VIN number is that long number stamped into the dashboard and is best seen on the outside of the car on the driver's side. How to find out what size tires and wheels my 2000 focus originally came out with?
This web site will get you the original size and other sizes if want to upgrade.

    http://www.tirerack.com/

The sticker in the door jamb should also list the tire size (what you are describing has nothing to do with tires).

The tire size depending on trim level and options was either P185/65R14 85S or P195/60R15 87T. More that likely the tire size originally fitted to the car is what is on it right now. Even if you can't find this information on the Vehicle Information Tag inside the door if you look at the tire you will see one of those two sizes written on it.

1986 Mustang Convertible Needs the Right Wheels and Tires?

Any ideas? I like polished and actual oem wheels around that year but not sure if I can just throw some 1991's on it and make it look right.

Do you know what I mean?1986 Mustang Convertible Needs the Right Wheels and Tires?
Your 1986 Mustang can only use 4 lug wheels from Mustangs before 1987. All models starting in 1987 use the same 4 lug pattern as your car but the hub sizes are different. So your two choices are: 1.) swapping to 4 lug hubs/spindles from a 1987 to 1993 mustang or 2.) just swapping hubs/spindles/axles/brakes from a 1994-1995 mustang or Lincoln Mark VIII so you can run 5 lug wheels. Using 5 lug hubs will open up a plethora of new wheels to your options list. Your only option for wheels with your current hubs/spindles will be wheels that fit PRE1987 Mustang models.

You can see here that your choices for 4 lug are far less than that of 5 lug models

4 lug wheels(none of which will fit your car):

    http://www.americanmuscle.com/87-93-must鈥?/a>

vs. 5 lug wheels(none of which will fit your car):

    http://www.americanmuscle.com/94-98-must鈥?/a>

My suggestion would be to swap to 5 lug and go from there.

How do I select the proper trailer tires and wheels?

I am building a trailer. I know what the tires need to support. But I have not found a straight forward chart that says these are what you need. Load range is weight that can be safely transported over a given distance. c,d,e, might be speed indicators for tires (A is highest). PLy refers to number of belts of rubber or steel in tire.

Yes, they will fit, but perhaps not properly. If you want to know for sure you can look up the "rim width range" on the specific make, model and size of your current tires. There's an example:

Fuel economy-What if we replaced tires with steel train wheels?

50% of all energy produced by engines in cars/trucks, simply warms the tires. What if we rigged Semi-Trucks so that they could hop on train tracks, then hop off when they hit the right towns?

I'm not talking about containers, I mean to let the driver actually run his truck on a train-track, but use metal wheels instead of rubber tires.Fuel economy-What if we replaced tires with steel train wheels?
It has already been invented. It was originally called piggy-back trains. Semi-trailers were transported on railroad flatcars. Now it is containerization or intermodal freight. Goods can be transported in the same container via truck, railroad, or ship. More efficient loading and unloading of freight. More effecient use of resources. We cannot build tracks to every place of business.
What about the cars that have to put up with truckers on interstate highways lol. I hate when the trucks coast in the left lane, shouldnt be done but it happens

Fuel economy-What if we replaced tires with steel train wheels?
    I think it's a bad idea.

Train tracks allow traffic in only one direction. The idea of a half-million people getting on and off the tracks at will would probably bring them to a standing stop before lunchtime. Just one breakdown would mean that trucks and trains and everything else would be backed up for miles behind him. And you just KNOW that some cowboy would jump on and go the wrong way, "cause it's only a few miles to where he has to deliver the load, and there probably won't be anyone coming then".

I'd bet the farm that this idea has been thought of already, and left behind by the people that know railroading. Besides, the ride on steel wheels would be murder.
    Scheduling problems.

What if one truck breaks down? Ties up the rails.

Cost of maintaining the rails and signals.

    Insurance costs.

Piggyback is the only viable answer.

There are trailers that ride the rails without rail cars.Fuel economy-What if we replaced tires with steel train wheels?
Where do you get the 50% from? How does heat get from the engine itself to the tires? A Majority of the energy is lost to heat in general. If anything the engine itself heats up. The tires heat up due to friction with the road. Friction is a good thing, especially when its wet and slippery out. The steel wheels of the train also heat up due to friction and friction is needed to prevent the wheels from spinning in 1 spot getting you nowhere fast.

"There are lies, damn lies and statistics"- Desraeli

"46.3% of all stats are made up on the spot"
ever try stopping something quickly with steel wheels on pavement? chances are, it wont happen quickly... steel wheels wouldnt provide enough traction to travel on pavement, let alone try to turn.. seems like you're going backwards in time, when tractors used steel wheels to plow in the fields.....
don't no where 50 % came from but BS....1 brakedown and system stops...too complex
First of all, correct your statement, its not 50%, its only about 1.3% of the energy that the vehicle generates, is converted into heat(its an average, fast moving and high load vehicles, generate more heat).....

Replacing tires with steel, not a bad idea, but putting them on tracks, sure it is, you know how complex the programs are that manage the arrival and departure of these trains and decide which train will go where so as to use them efficiently and still making some gaps for the rest.....

just imagine the scenario you just said as if hundreds of blind people running on a race track, they'll collide and fall, and this is what its gonna happen...

you are saying to implement this coz it will cut off some cost of energy, but its not gonna pay as much that you are gonna spend on the laying down and maintenance of these tracks....

Instead, if we all start using gps, with a program making out shortest path for a given set of co-ordinates(origin and destination) connected with a central database(over internet), controlling traffic and increasing fuel efficiency of cars, will be another option to what you suggested and this can even be implemented, think of it as if no traffic jams, shortest and fastest path to the place, booking of parking slots prior to arrival, etc etc.....

this will enhance the present day road travel system.....
Isn't it more costly to build railroad tracks than keep up asphault? Unfortunately at around the time we went from Horses to rails...they should have kept with that idea then instead of shifting to streets. If we go back to rails I think the start up costs would be crazy high because you are talking about building not only rails, but stations, etc. Everyone talking about no money in the budget as it is.

    Nice thought though.
Think you have your facts wrong here 50% ? Look out here comes the 9.15 from liverpool st.

I am running 33" tires on my Cherokee with a three inch lift. You will have to trim the fenders to make them work. I have run 35" tires but they did not work well - not enough room to stuff them.

You can run 31" tires with only minor trimming.

BTW- you can't do a body lift on a XJ.

See this post for my recommended lift: http://mikestrawbridge.com/blog/2009/03/鈥?/a>

You can put any size of tyre on your lifted Jeep. The question should be what is the maximum size that will fit my 3" lift: the answer is 33".
    Other question answers:
    1. the best is to have a combination of both. 1" suspension and 2" body lift. The problem that the body lift takes a lot of work and hassle before it's installed unlike the suspension lift that is easy to install.
    2. with the current lift you have you can put 33" tyres with no fear. Anything above that you should go for higher lift. For instance I lifted my jeep YJ 6" to get 35".
    3. if you have already 3" lift I suggest, 33"x12.5" and 10" wheels. Those look awesome. but be careful to choose aluminum wheel not steel type or you're going to have a problems with rear axle and differentials.
You should also lower the transfer case to eliminate vibration. You should also extend the brake lines, the fuel lines in the back and also relocate your radiator. If I get a 3 inch lift on my Jeep Cherokee, what size wheels and tires would I need to get?
1.suspension lift is better than a body lift 2.33"s will be fine 3.you already answered you question

Up, down, sideways, it doesn't matter. Air pressure at what you normally run them and check the pressure when you take them out of storage. If your storing them for a long time, wipe them rubber down with armor-all or some other protectant against dry rot and fill the tires with nitrogen if you want to go to the expense. What is the correct way to put a set of tires and wheels in storage??
Keep them pressurized if you dont then the rubber will crack when you re-inflate them.

Again, I want to install a lift kit on my 04 jeep rubicon. Also some new wheels and tires. Any Ideas?

I do a little off-roading, but also use the freeway frequently. At a local shop the install a ROUGH COUNTRY 4'' suspension for about $800.00. Is this a good deal? Is it worth the $? Also I wanted to get some wheels 16x8.5 and fit some 33's. Would I have ANY problems overall. I have dana 44s on front and rear. I am even considering going to 6'' lift. Any ideas?Again, I want to install a lift kit on my 04 jeep rubicon. Also some new wheels and tires. Any Ideas?
Get yourself an OME 2.5 lift, with a 1 inch spring spacer and a 1 in Daystar body lift. This will give you the best overall highway ride and articulation for off-roading.

Don't do out and build yourself a "look at me" Jeep. Build one that will gain you respect amongst other Jeep owners. Do your research. know the product before you buy it. Thats what I and my friends do.
You don't need a 6" lift for 33" tires. Check with the local Jeep or 4x4 club and ask questions about lift kits. You can probably run 33'' tires with a 1" spacer lift.Again, I want to install a lift kit on my 04 jeep rubicon. Also some new wheels and tires. Any Ideas?
skyjacker softride 4" lift. My 2000 wrangler runs great with that. You might Want to get a 4:10 gear ratio. My seems to lose a little bit at the start moving 33's. Run with goodyaer all terains if its your eveyday vehicle other wise go with goodyear mtr's.
wait until your warranty is out before you alter the geometry of the suspension and toast it.Again, I want to install a lift kit on my 04 jeep rubicon. Also some new wheels and tires. Any Ideas?
Just go with spacers. You don't need much to run 33's, one or two inches will do. Your ride won't change. I recommend BFG AT's. They are good on the freeway and just fine for light wheeling. I use them myself. You should consider some protection for underneath. Suggest rock sliders, oil pan and fuel tank protection.
Wait till your out of warenty and save up for the lift you really want (but don't realize it yet).

For the lift kit stick with a long arm kit and stay away from short arm kits and body lifts. You will foul up the drivetrain geometry ruin your on street performance and start busting stuff off road. You will spend more money and be broke down alot than doing it right.

Do youself a favor and look at Nth Degree mobility. The guy that designed the kits (and owns the company) worked on the TJ suspension design team. Their products actualy IMPROVE onroad handeling.

You will be looking at a 4" lift to fit 33's and 6" to swing 35" without rubbing.

The rough country for $800 sounds like a bad idea - If you start trading out components you take the jeep out of balance. The engineers spent a lot of time on designing a system. If you want more lift than they designed you have a lot of work to do to put things right.

I just put a Nth degree 6" long arm under my 98 TJ. Lift kit, new shocks, upgrade the steering bars, change out the gears (front and rear diffarentials), Rear drive shaft - new wheels and tires. You could easely spend $8,000.00 to keep your rig in balance and go to 33" or 35" rubber. If you like your jeep save up the cash to do it right - you will be happier and it will cost less than starting down the road your considering.
I've got 2" suspension and 1.5" body lift on my '99 TJ and am running 33s with no problem (however I only do mild-to-medium wheeling - I still have the stock axles and open diffs). The plus side is that I didn't have to adjust the drive line angle or do any sort of long arm kit on it - just had to put motor mounts on.

If you get a 4" or 6" lift then you have to start adjusting other parts of the transmission and suspension, and that runs not only into $$ but it also creates stresses that can become weak links to breakage if you don't know what you're doing and why. If you don't need the clearance for the tires, don't go overboard on the lift until you better understand the physics.

Besides, IMHO it's better to learn how to drive the trail, not the vehicle. If you rely too much on how built your Jeep is to get over obstacles, you can get yourself into more trouble.

Don't put cheap tires and wheels on that car. You'll lose a lot of performance and safety. Cheap wheels will be hard to balance and cheap tires won't last long and will have a poor grip. You want cheap, get fancy wheel covers. Hankook makes low priced tires that perform well and wear well.

Question about selecting the right size wheels and tires?

I'm thinking of putting new rims on my xb for the summer months and I want to put a 17in or 18in tire and wheel package on. I was wondering if I go with a larger wheel and a lower profile tire do I still have to have the spedo re-calibrated and the alignment checked? The stock rims are 15in and the the tires are 195/60 15Question about selecting the right size wheels and tires?
If the tire size is larger or smaller than the tires currently on the vehicle, the speedometer will need to be corrected when the new tires are put on the vehicle. Rim size is irrelevant, it only matters if the tires being used on the vehicle are or different size than those the speedometer is currently calibrated to operate with.

A kia has 13 in wheels and high performance tires, whats the best way to change to regular wheels and tires fo?

have 13 in wheels, high performance tires, best way to change to regular wheels and tires, for this winter.with out breaking the bank.A kia has 13 in wheels and high performance tires, whats the best way to change to regular wheels and tires fo?
13" wheel and tire sizes are effectively obsolete. No new car sold in North America has been fitted with anything that tiny in about a decade. There are certainly few if any "high performance tires" still sold in a 13" wheel diameter so what is still out there is mostly the cheap 2nd and 3rd tier tires. The big tire companies like Michelin, Goodyear, Bridgestone, etc., don't even make 13" tires anymore. I suspect you don't really understand what you have.

The wheels can have a unique design, and can be forged to make it light and strong. The tires must have good grip in the wet and dry.

The wheels can have 5/6/10/8 spokes as it is enough to make the design nice.Designing wheels and tires for a race car?
THE WHEELS NEED TO BE A CERTAIN WEIGHT, SIZE AND DIAMETER. THEY ALSO NEED TO BE INCREDIBLY STRONG.

Can I buy a 17 inch wheels and tires for a car that has 16 inch wheels on it?

I have a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue and I wanted to put 17's on it without having to mod anything. Is it possible. Can I buy a 17 inch wheels and tires for a car that has 16 inch wheels on it?
    You sure can.

But your speedometer readings would be off then .
Yea just make sure the bolt pattern is the same. I believe you can go up to 18's before modding brakes, calipers etcCan I buy a 17 inch wheels and tires for a car that has 16 inch wheels on it?
yes. you can go even larger than that if you want to, provided the bolt patterns are the same
Going larger in diameter is generally not a problem for any car, but going smaller might cause a problem with brake caliper clearance. Here are three things to consider. One, the overall height and width of the new tires and wheels are very close to that of the stock tires and wheels. Two, the bolt pattern of the new wheels matches your car. Three, the offset of the new wheels matches the stock wheels. Offset is the distance from the center of the wheel to the tire mounting surface of the wheel. Can I buy a 17 inch wheels and tires for a car that has 16 inch wheels on it?
Yes you can do this with no other modifications. Its a pretty modest upgrade.

Make sure of course that the wheels are of the correct offset, bolt pattern and hub center or that they come with hub-centering rings. The correct tire size for this application would be a P225/55R17 95 with a speed rating of S or higher inflated to 32 psi instead of the 30 psi of the stock P225/60R16 97S tires. The increase in tire pressure compensates for the lower load carrying ability of the 17-inch tires.
You can even go with a 18"

Anything bigger and the rotors should be upgraded to bigger diameter for more stopping power - and to fill the void.
yes you could and even go to 20" go to eBay.com for cheap rims and tires or Tirerack for more information on your car rims and tire.

  • How long will tires last if stored off the wheels?

I have four almost new tires that have been stored in the basement for about 5 or 6 years, off the wheels. They are Bridgestone performance tires that came with a new BMW 745i and were replaced almost immediately. Are they likely to still be good? How long will tires last if stored off the wheels?
Tire aging is a hot topic in the industry. There is no consensus on how old a tire should be before being taken out of service but most tire manufacturers that have taken a position on this matter say 10 years from the date of manufacture.

In a high-performance in particular tire age decreases performance so that tires stored for several years, even if they have little or no wear will not provide the kind of grip they had when new.How long will tires last if stored off the wheels?
yes...How long will tires last if stored off the wheels?
They may be a bit dry rotteted,i sold my 89 fth ave and kept the original never used spare, and it's the same size that Chrysler put on the car in 89,15 inch and what ever,so thats a bit dry rotteted, but the thing still even has the original factory stickers on it,so examan the tire and if it isn't to rotted go ahead, but definataly try and get some newrer ones.

I have a 2005 mustang gt, when spinning tires both wheels hop very bad, always been like that. What can i do?

When i am at a stand still, dump the clutch the tires feel like they are coming inches off the ground, If i go around any corner and try to burn some rubber more wheel hopping, In the rain if it is slick, more wheel hopping same in the snow... Very frustrating, I brought the car to a couple of ford service garages but nothing,I have a 2005 mustang gt, when spinning tires both wheels hop very bad, always been like that. What can i do?
.1st of all wheel hop can cause serious damage to your car and continue doing that will result in either clutch failure or rear end breakage.

if you want to drive hard....to correct

1.you have to have decent rubber (wider, narrow profile tires with lots of contact area......like nitto 555's or mickey thompson street slicks)....note these are performance tires with high contact points and requires tactful driving in wet weather. i run nitto invo's (size

285/30ZR 19's) which have more tread and provide a little better all weather capability .

    2. you have to upgrade cars suspension:

    ..........lower on eibach springs

..........install full length sub chassis connectors

..........performance shocks konis, tokico, or qa-1's

    3. install bigger gears in the rear end (3.73's)

.beyond that you can install some aftermarket control arms (but usually better rubber, stiffer shocks, springs and better chassis set -up will correct.

if you want to drive your car hard you are well advised to upgrade it ....perhaps going to a ford shop (unless they have a performance group SVT approved) will not help....you have to be in a pro shop.

if you continue to drive as you are without enhancing your vehicle i 100% guarantee you will break it.

additionally perhaps practice driving skills, dumping the clutch is not necessarily the fastest way to launch.

    cheers 04 cobra
stop driving like a complete Moron, and you won't have that problem...I have a 2005 mustang gt, when spinning tires both wheels hop very bad, always been like that. What can i do?
doing burnouts are very bad for your car and it will put alot of wear and tear on your car
Wheel hop usually means your driving style has destroyed the shock absorbers and the rear suspension mounts. This car is not meant for that type of driving. I have seen a lot of these Mustangs sitting along the road with the entire rear end assembly ripped out. The rear axle locating bars are mounted to the sheet metal part of the floor boards and have no strength. When you rip the rear end out, you will also take out your back seat passengers.I have a 2005 mustang gt, when spinning tires both wheels hop very bad, always been like that. What can i do?
rear shocks? poss fit tramp bars.but i agree with the others
Wheel hop is cause by putting to much power to the rear wheels when you dump the clutch. Are you on a track or are you on the street???

Only street punks race on the street.
replace rear shocks, if they are drag race units, theyre too soft.
Stiffer shocks, and springs, and some decent tires, will go a long way toward curing this...although most of the time, wheel hop is caused by driving style....
Wheel hop is caused by the flimsy lower control arms causing the whole differential to twist. You should start with beefy control arms from Lakewood or Southside. Also, wheel-hop is really hard on your differential gears and axles.
