What are the widest tires that will fit a 1971 firebird. what backspacing on the wheels for a tasteful stance?

i don't want the tires and wheels to hang outside the body or rub on the inner wheel house. i'd like to use a 17 or 18 inch wheelWhat are the widest tires that will fit a 1971 firebird. what backspacing on the wheels for a tasteful stance?
245 on the front, without flaring the fenders.

255 on the back.

With the larger diameter wheels, you should upgrade your brakes - due to increased rotational inertia, and also not that the increased rotational inertia will slow your acceleration.

Personally, I think that 235/60R15 front and rear are the best compromise for performance and handling, along with lowering the car slightly. What are the widest tires that will fit a 1971 firebird. what backspacing on the wheels for a tasteful stance?
there is a chart in one of the magazines that was published a few years back for the chevy camaro and varied dependent on the rim size and backspacing. I printed it for reference on my 69 firebird. You should be able to find it through a search engine but ask for the year 71 Camaro. I believe it was a Super Chevy magazine or a Chevy high Performance.
