What size wheels and tires for a Jeep YJ with a 4" lift kit?

Hello All,

I just put a 4" lift kit on my 1994 Jeep YJ and wanted to put larger tires on it, but don't know what the best size is. Before the lift it had 31x10.5x15. I have been thinking about 33" tires, but was told that the tires would wear funny if they were put on the same size rims. So, what size rims do you recommend for 33" tires? Thank you! What size wheels and tires for a Jeep YJ with a 4" lift kit?
33"s will look fine and give you a bit of room so the tires dont make contact with the fenders. I have put 33"s on a CJ7 with 2.5" lift and it only slightly rubbed the fender flares. As far as rim size, it depends on how wide the 33"s are. I ran 32x11.50s tires on a 15x8" rim and it was fine. A 15x10" would be ideal but you could get away with a 15x8"...
I have a 92 yj that is also sporting 4 extra inches I put 12.5's on my 10.5's and couldn't be happier. Happy mudding! What size wheels and tires for a Jeep YJ with a 4" lift kit?
When you put that lift on and go for those 33 inch tires, you are almost commiting your jeep to the offroad. Why would you put gas sucking tires on a daily driver? If it is going to be mainly for off road use then it really doesn't matter. The wider the rims, the more footprint of the tire gets put on the dirt. The narrower the rims the more the tires look like balloons and the less footprint goes in the dirt. Serious offroaders air down their tires anyway. Be sure to get the correct backspacing or dish to the rims so the wheels don't rub the frame or other when turning. That is the main reason people change rims with bigger tires.

The narrower the tire the better it handles all round. The wider the width of the tire the more your jeep will handle like a monster truck (which is not necessarily a good thing!).

Let me clear the air in case you are unaware. The tire size 31x10.5x15 means that the tires are 31 inches tall, 10.5 inches across the tread (footprint of the tire) and that they fit on a 15 inch rim. Your Jeep factory rims were probably 15 inches indiameter and 8 inches across (where the tire seats). Larger width tires (%26gt;10.5") wide will fit on the stock (8") rims, but it is probably not reccomended. I would feel comfortable putting pretty much any size tire on a 10-10.5" rim.
33's would be could if you go much bigger your going to have to get gears. What size wheels and tires for a Jeep YJ with a 4" lift kit?
You can run a 33 you may notice a little power drop maybe more if you have a 4 cylinder.you can re-gear it.Not sure who told you that they need to do some info searching.Your tire size would be 33x10.50 x15 on 8" or 10" rims most tires will fit either a 8 or 10"rim.Just to let you know I run 35x12.50x15 on 10"rims.The 8"would be better for when you air down you won't pop a bead as easy as a 10" GOOD LUCK
I run 33x12.5x15 on 8" rims on my YJ with a 5录" lift. I get an occasional rub on the rear flairs. My wheels are only backspaced about 3陆", so about 2"-3" of the tire is outside the flair. TJ flairs would solve my rubbing issues, but I'm cheap and have learned to live with it.

Without re-gearing the diffs, you will have a major power loss (most noticeable when going up steep grades). The larger tire size will also throw off your speedo (you'll be going faster than the speedo says) and your MPGs won't be accurate until you change the speedo gear.

Happy Jeeping my friend!
